Wild Ginger Apothecary: A 2017 Desire Map Workshop
"Make yourself a priority once in a while. It's not selfish. It's necessary."
- Karen A. Banquiran
I always want to continue to expand my views, be local, and dive right into community events. Unlike New York City, Sarasota has a way of engulfing you within its culture and easy-going lifestyle. Don't get me wrong, the city is a glamorous melting pot for sure. But, there isn't much room to be too personal- if you know what I mean.
I'm happy I can say I've made a friend in the Gulf Gate area and it has truly manifested. I had the privilege of interviewing Nicole Leffler last year and she is featured as one of my favorite SRQ trailblazers. I attended her 1 Year Anniversary, Goals With Soul and most recently Resolutions Out, Revolutions In.
But I have to say that last weekends workshop “Resolutions out. Revolutions in.” is an amazing two-day in-person experience for discovering what you want most out of your life. A holistic approach to set New Year’s resolutions with soul. This workshop is based on the best-selling book The Desire Map, created by Danielle La Porte.
Who is Danielle La Porte you ask?
One of Oprah Winfrey's "Super Soul 100"and she was named one of the "Top 100 Websites For Women" by Forbes. So in simple terms she is a entreprneurial badass.
At the end of the workshop, I walked away with my core desired feelings and will use those to guide my life decisions in my career, my health, my creativity, my relationships, and my spirit. This is a revolution in goal-planning from the heart. It's a whole different concept on the saying "New Year, New You" or " New Year Resolutions"
I completely caught a high from the organic energy and lively personalities. It was a weekend complete with bonding, meditation, yoga, dance, soul searching, round table talk, organic lunch, and tea! Yes, lots of tea.. I really love tea.
I have never realized the importance of wellness until most recently. I've worked within environments where you're praised for over working, staying after hours and not taking time off. The "rat race" lifestyle isn't conducive to your mental and physical health. The New York Times posted the article by Tara Parker-Pope "The 8 Heath Habits Experts Say You Need in Your 20s". It stated "While most 20-year-olds don't worry much about their health, studies show the lifestyle and health decisions we make during our third decade of life have a dramatic effect on how well we age."
So I say if you're not doing so, start now investing in a better and healthier you.
