New York Fashion Week February 2019: A Mini Recap- By Siria K. Alvarez
Day 1
On the first official day, I attended the Blue Jacket Fashion Show, an annual fashion show held at Pier 59 Studios in Chelsea, Manhattan. This show is charitable, with the intent to bring awareness to prostate cancer. Models are everyday media individuals ranging from actors, athletes, comedians and more. This event concluded with complimentary cocktails and networking. After meeting some new friends, we Uber’d uptown to Central Park and attended a mixer held by Daily Front Row. I spotted EJ Johnson in the crowd, while snatching up some caviar at the ice sculpture table.
Day 2
My Day 2 was 4 because I skipped a day of fashion hopping. I attended the Son Jung Wan show, which I attend often due to their super awesome publicist putting me on. They are a Korean fashion brand who truly knows how to make skintone colors pop, with a mix of iridescent fabrics and furs.
Day 3
After skipping even more days of festivities, my Day 3 was officially Day 7 (Thursday), also known as the last day of NYFW. I attended the Xia Leaf x Hello Kitty show which I can mostly remember that it started super early in the morning. (You can not imagine the effort it took to roll out of bed because I am NOT a morning person). I’m glad I went however, it was a fun show filled with a lot of color and I sat front row with a friend and associate for it. The brand was Kuwaii themed, models rocked bold colors with imitation stickers and Hello Kitty dolls in hand, moon boots and mixtures of patterns to top it off. On this day, I dressed for the occasion, with royal blue platform boots, yellow oversized camo pants and a crop blue top under a yellow fur, my hair styled in a wavy vintage vixen cut and red matrix-y glasses before I headed right back uptown to get some work done.
Fashion Week is fun but it is also exhausting...but it’s also fun.
It’s a great opportunity to meet new faces, familiar faces, famous faces, you get a ton of free goodies everywhere and alot of photo opps, so you want to look your best. I imagine it’s like the storybook Cinderella Balls. Haha. Anyway, I hope this has been a fun read. Hopefully we will run into each other one of these fashion weeks!
