The Local Artist Collective Series- Curated by The Localista
The arts is a vessel for storytelling, expression, enlightenment and conveying the human experience. Exposure to the arts enriches our lives, communities, and culture. The Local Art Collective was created to fill a void, understanding the importance of offering a well rounded representation of an art practice for the people in the community.
The LAC was a collaborative effort with local artists offering open sessions, workshops demonstrations, exhibitions, pop up events and many creative tips. The Localista Blog, with Emerge Sarasota, a multicultural young professionals group, have collaborated to offer this platform for the community to work with artists and develop their craft amongst local art aficionados. Each artists hosting events with a focus of their own, all presenting unique techniques.
Many of our participating artist have a desire to help and inspire others through the arts. They have drawn as long as they can remember and have fined tuned her abilities throughout the years of their practice. LCA Kickoff event was hosted on March 30th, 2018 at the Reserve Sarasota and will be an on-going series provided by The Localista.
The Reserve is a unique urban gathering place in Downtown Sarasota that serves a variety of Buddy Brew coffee and tea beverages, as well as craft beers (on tap or bottled), and tasty wines, kombuchas (on tap or bottled) and light bites. Located in historically significant Ringling Buildings, they also have a great selection of curated books from bestsellers to beach reads.
Word has it that the Reserve buildings were part of Charles Ringling’s estate before his mansion was erected. Charles was John Ringling’s brother and a partner in Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus. Once they made their fortunes, Charles built his mansion, and the buildings were then moved to their current location at 1322 N. Tamiami Trail, near Downtown Sarasota and the Van Wezel. Once on the Trail, the buildings were used as a boarding house, a circus performance venue, and even a bordello.
